Professional Competent Person Services in Coalville

Every employer must appoint one or more competent persons to help them meet their health and safety duties. That is a legal requirement, not a recommendation, and for most small and medium businesses the practical answer is an external appointment. We act as your competent person, giving you qualified advice on call without the cost of an in-house appointment.

Based in Coalville, Leicestershire, Integral Safety is ideally positioned to serve businesses in Coalville. Choosing a local consultancy means a named consultant who knows your site and can attend when it matters, rather than a call centre and a ticket number.

For Coalville businesses this is about as local as a competent person appointment gets. Our office is on John Cooper Way, which means site visits are quick to arrange, and if something happens we can usually be there the same day.

Most of our local retained clients are warehousing and distribution operators, trade and construction firms, and small manufacturers, the sort of businesses that are too small to justify an in-house safety manager but far too exposed to have nobody.

Local knowledge

Business and Industry in Coalville

Coalville and the wider North West Leicestershire district have shifted from coal to distribution. The town sits at the junction of the A42, A511 and M1, which has made it one of the busiest logistics locations in the country, and Bardon Hill quarry remains a major industrial presence. Alongside that sit engineering firms, builders merchants, manufacturers and a substantial trade and construction sector.

Questions

Competent Person Services in Coalville: Your Questions

What does a retained competent person arrangement cost?

It depends on your size, sector and how much support you want, so we quote after a conversation rather than from a price list. For most small local businesses it is a predictable monthly or annual figure, considerably less than employing anyone, and it means you are not paying crisis rates when something goes wrong.

Do we need this if we only have a few employees?

The duty to appoint a competent person applies from your first employee, with no small business exemption, though what is proportionate obviously scales with your size and risk. If you have five or more employees you also need a written health and safety policy. For a very small low-risk business the arrangement can be correspondingly light.

Can you act as our competent person in Coalville?

Yes. We act as the appointed competent person for businesses throughout Coalville and the surrounding area, which typically means advice on call, periodic site visits, and keeping your policy and risk assessments current as your business changes.

Is appointing a competent person actually a legal requirement?

Yes. Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires every employer to appoint one or more competent persons to assist in complying with their health and safety duties. The regulations express a preference for appointing someone from within your own organisation where a suitably competent person exists, but for most smaller businesses an external appointment is the realistic route.
